1st Way to Redefine Yourself: Zumba with Chris at Joy of Motion/Atlas

Chris MauldenToday was the first day of my 10 day challenge inspired by a recent Joy of Motion Dance Center Twitter promotion. The first free class they gave away back in December was Zumba with Chris Maulden at their Atlas studio. For those of you not familiar with Zumba, it is a Latin-inspired fitness program that combines international music and dance steps to create a fun fitness party.

According to Chris, there are only three rules in his class: Have fun, have fun and have fun. Maintaining a high level of energy during the hour long class and singing to the music, he definitely succeeded in keeping a smile on my face. Zumba made me sweat like crazy as well. You’re basically jumping, moving and dancing the entire time. One part of the class that stood out in my mind was a combination that you do en releve (on the balls of your feet). Had to do some major calf stretching after that. If you’re looking for a good workout, Zumba is the class for you.
